A wee-sized Passive House project that features a simple and modern look, we are very proud of this house's certification by the Passive House Institute. Fresh air ventilation is provided by the CERV, a next-gen device that not only manages fresh air delivery and heat recovery, but also provides the ability to treat the fresh air with an integrated heat pump while also monitoring CO2 and VOC levels in the air. Solar panels on the roof generate electricity. After nearly 3 years of tracking electricity consumption versus generation, this all-electric house (no combustion fuels) generates roughly 15% more energy than it uses!
Pipsqueak recently won an award at the Passive Institute conference and was featured on Inhabitat.
The 2 story, 3 bed/2 bath/office design is oriented to the south for maximum heat gain and views. The main level kitchen/dining/living space opens up to the second level's ceiling on the south side, bathing the living space in light and warmth. Summer shading is provided by roof eaves and on the south there is a steel shad structure that supports seasonal shade cloth. The exterior material palette includes accoya wood siding, stucco and metal panels.
